Indian Stick Insects

We have recently acquired some rather unusual class pets! They are not furry and soft and not what most people would call cute! But we like them!

Click here to read more about stick insects.

They are easy to keep and not at all dangerous.

We keep them in a fish tank with a ventilated top. They have branches to hang on which help them to shed their skins. Sometimes we can't see them as they camouflage themselves against the sticks.

We have to keep them supplied with fresh brambles, privet or ivy and spray their tank to give them moisture.

We can carefully get them out of the tank and hold them. We lift nymphs by their tails and adults in the centre of their body.

We have to keep checking for eggs in the tank or we will be overrun with stick insects!
